5 Tips to Building a Successful Blog That Sets You Free

We all want a successful blog. These 5 tips to building a successful blog will help you work towards the lifestyle that you’ve been dreaming about.

Yes, we’re told that we shouldn’t do this for the money.

So how do we build a successful blog if we shouldn’t do it for the money?

The truth is that most bloggers are blogging today to pursue a life of passion. They want to live life on their terms.

  • No boss to tell them what to do
  • Not having to worry about trading hours for dollars
  • Getting away from the morning hour rat race

So why are we constantly told, don’t chase the money?

As bloggers, our job is to provide valuable content that actually helps people. No, you don’t have to cure world hunger or end domestic violence.

However, your content should be able to help someone. Even if it only helps one person, you’re still making a difference.

In order to live life on your own terms, that requires money.

This is why you see so many bloggers monetizing their blogs.

Unfortunately, money makes the world go round.

So, we blog and hope that one day, our blogs will turn into a profitable business model that puts food on our tables.

You’re not alone, every blogger feels this way. Why else would I be up at 4:00 am Saturday morning writing this?

I love blogging, but hey my goal is to become a full-time blogger and move away from freelancing.

Here are 5 tips that will help you turn your blog into a success. These are the same steps that I am using to grow my blog.

5 Tips to Building a Successful Blog That Sets You Free

When you learn how to do these 5 things day in and day out, you will be able to find success. Success will be inevitable, after all, you’re taking action, not just dreaming.

  1. Develop Good Habits

If you look at any successful blogger, you’ll notice that they’ve developed success habits.

These are habits that they do in their business every day. Let’s look at two of them.

Ryan Biddulph: If you’ve read any of his posts or Ebooks, you know that he makes it a point to visit and comment on other people’s blogs.

This has helped him develop relationships with other bloggers and guest post on hundreds of blogs.

He’s even said that he does this every day, no excuses. This is a success habit that he’s developed.

Donna Merrill: Just like Ryan she built up her blog by visiting and commenting on other people’s blogs.

She continues to use this success habit today. She’s been blogging for several years and has grown her blog into a popular community where bloggers love hanging out.

You’re no different, you can develop these success habits that will help you grow your blog.

  1. Take Massive Action

We all want success, no one wants to continue publishing content on a blog that doesn’t get any readers.

Starting a new blog is exciting. We dream of the possibilities that we’ll experience once the money rolls in.

For the first couple months, you’re working hard on our blog. However, once you realize that we have to write content for our own blogs and guest posts, learn social media, create videos, create products and etc…

You stop taking massive action. Maybe, you even start to doubt your capabilities.

Whatever it is, I see it in Facebook Groups all the time. People start a new course and they’re excited.

After a while when reality kicks in, they’re either off looking for something else.

Or they just abandon their blog altogether.

We all want success, it’s human nature. However, it isn’t going to fall into your lap, you have to be willing to take massive action.

The great thing is that once you realize what’s actually working for your blog, you’ll know where to focus your efforts.

  1. Learn Every Day

Make it a point to learn something new each and every day. I’ve recently started walking 5 miles 6 days a week.

It’s been great, I’ve managed to lose 5 pounds. The best part is that it usually takes me about 1 hour and 20 minutes to complete my walk.

During this time, I am listening to podcasts that are helping me learn how to grow my blog. Two of my favorite podcasts to listen to are ProBlogger and Smart Passive Income.

If you don’t walk 5 miles every day, that’s fine. Just make it a point to take time away from your blog and learn something.

Just make it a point to take time away from your blog and learn something.

You’ll be amazed at how much this will help you improve your blog.

  1. Create Blogging Goals

You don’t have to create unrealistic goals for your blog. We all know that you’re blog isn’t going to make six figures in the first year.

However, you should create some type of goals that you’re working towards every month.

I love creating short-term goals because they’re easier to achieve. If you only create long-term goals, you’ll find yourself disappointed when you never reach your goals.

Having a blog without creating goals is going deep sea diving without the proper equipment.

It’s crazy, you need goals in order to know where you’re going and what you’re trying to achieve.

  1. Track Your Blog Stats

When I first started blogging, it took me months to realize that I needed to track my blog stats.

I wasn’t tracking anything, so I couldn’t tell you if my blog was actually growing.

I was taking all out massive action, but I had no evidence to see if my actions were growing my blog.

Today, there are specific things that I track at the end of the month to see if I am building a successful blog.

I’ll share what I am keeping track of. Now you may choose to keep track of other metrics on your blog, but this will give you a good idea of where to begin.

  • Email Subscribers
  • YouTube Subscribers
  • Twitter Subscribers
  • Pinterest Followers
  • Facebook Followers
  • Affiliate Income
  • Products Sold and Income
  • Services Income

If you don’t sell your own products and services on your blog yet, that’s fine. Maybe, one day you will.

You don’t need any fancy software or tools to track your metrics. I just use a spreadsheet on Google Drive and update it at the end of every month.

Final Take Away

Hopefully, these 5 tips to building a successful blog will help you realize what it takes. No, you don’t want money to be your main goal for your blog.

There’s nothing wrong with monetizing your blog and providing valuable information that helps your readers.

If you make money along the way, which I have no doubt if you implement these 5 tips to building a successful blog, you eventually will.

Do you follow any of these 5 tips? If so let me know how it’s working out for you? Are you starting to see the positive results in your blog growth?

  4. Interesting article. But Backlinks are also a key point to get success in blogging life. Without backlinks, there is no growth of the blog. I want to know your thoughts on my comment. I would love to hear your thoughts.

    • Hi Rakesh,

Thanks for taking the time to stop by and comment on Rakesh. Backlinks are important, however, I don’t focus on building them.

Instead, I just focus on writing great content and building relationships by sharing and commenting on other people’s blogs.

Which have lead the opportunity to several guest posts. I guess you could say these are backlinks, but I don’t care about the backlink.

The reason I don’t focus on backlinks is because I was burnt in the past by Google. I was so focused on backlinks and when Google released their update, my site was penalized.

So now, I’d rather grow my blog naturally without worry about where and how to get backlinks.

It’s much more pleasant now that I’ve taken the “chasing the backlinks out of the game.”

That’s just my opinion, everyone chooses to run their blog the way that they want.

Thanks for taking the time to stop by Vishwajeet’s blog.

      Have a great day:)

      Susan

  7. Hi, Susan!

First off, it’s a great post. People start off and keep looking at the influencers — and that’s where they dwell on failures.

You’ve mentioned some great points in your blog post. In my experience, learning something new every day has been the most helpful thing in my blogging career.

I truly believe that building a successful blog is a process. We must go through the process. It doesn’t mean we don’t need to look at the statistics. In fact, we must do everything to fine-tune our blogging growth.

I liked all of your tips.

    Thank you!

  8. Great Article. Free tools are very helpful for newbies to check before buy.
I personally have tried SEMRush free version and it helped me a lot. The options like site audit, position tracking, backlink audit etc. are simply amazing. And I will try others tools that you have mentioned too.

  9. Hi Susan,

You are speedily dominating the blogging niche. I’m happy for you. It’s a pleasure reading your thought on Kumar’s blog.

I’m so passionate with what Ryan is doing and I must commend him for that. He taught me to believe that blog commenting can do some magic.

On setting goals, I’m a big fan of that even though I’ve not really followed them up wisely but I believe the new week will be better.

    Cheers.

    Emenike
